Philosophy of Education:
I believe each and every child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world. I will help children to develop their potential by believing in them as capable individuals. I will assist children in discovering who they are, so they can express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas.
SCIENCE and SOCIAL STUDIES 5TH GRADE CONTENT OVERVIEW:
5th graders will take the Reading, Math and Science STAAR tests this year. STAAR is designed to more thoroughly assess the content of a course, including both concepts taught in previous grade levels and readiness for the next instructional level. The questions will require higher order thinking skills and more complex thought processes.
In Science, our class activities will provide opportunities for hands-on investigations, interactive virtual investigations, web surfing, problem solving, problem based learning, cross-curricula connections, and much more. The three areas of study in Science will include: life, physical, and Earth science, while incorporating scientific processes and tools/safety concepts.
In fifth grade Social Studies, students use their understanding of social studies concepts and cause-and-effect relationships to study the development of the United States up to 1791. By applying what they know from civics, economics and geography, students learn the ideals, principles, and systems that shaped this country’s founding. They conclude the fifth grade by applying their understanding of the country’s founding and the ideals in the nation’s fundamental documents to issues of importance to them today.
